We all sit there and hold our breath until we find out if we were the winner of a contest we’ve been dying to win. The only thing I have ever won is a massive pink flamingo in the 5th grade from Fiddlesticks. That eventually turned into a dog toy. Thankfully Voxbloc offers better contests than stuffed animals.

Here is some insite from our winner of the Jay Leno/Parachute Contest. Island Def Jam and Mercury Records gave away tickets to see Parachute perform on Jay Leno and a California native won. Marissa Breidinger from California hooked us up with what her experience was like.

KB: What went through your head when you found out you were the winner?

MB: I think the first thing that went through my head was disbelief, when I entered the contest I wasn’t really expecting to win as that sort of thing has never really happened to me before.  When I found out that I did in fact win the tickets I was so excited! Parachute is one of my favorite bands so you can only imagine how happy I was to be able to see them live and during a taping of The Tonight Show with Jay Leno!

KB: Have you ever won any contests before? Have you ever won any other Voxbloc contests?

MB: I actually haven’t won any contests at all before, Voxbloc included.  This was the very first time I have won any sort of contest!

KB: Who is your favorite band on Voxbloc?

MB: Parachute!

KB: How long have you been a Voxbloc user?

MB: Only for a few weeks, I had actually signed up through Parachute when I heard about the contest on their facebook page.

KB: What was your favorite part about going to the Jay Leno show?

MB: I don’t think I have a favorite part, I mean I was most excited to go and see Parachute, I think they are such a talented group so it was very cool to see them being tapped for a TV show, but the whole experience in general was so fun that I don’t think I will ever forget it.  Jay Leno was such a funny guy and the production team did such a great job of keeping the audience entertained as well.  It was an awesome experience!

Marissa Breidinger has only been a a Voxbloc user a couple weeks and already won! I want to give every VB user an opportunity to be a winner. Keep entering, i’ll keep picking!!

What do Reba and Blake Shelton have in common? They are both from the state of Oklahoma that was ravished by that streak of tornado’s over the past few weeks.

When I was little, I used to be terrified of storms. I was born in Arizona and all we have out there is lightning and dust storms that sting your eyes. After watching an endless amount of tornado movies, I started having nightmares about them. At that point I began to try to dig storm cellars in my backyard, which did not go over very well with my family.

I can’t image the devastation that has happened to the Midwest in the past few weeks. Reba and Blake Shelton are stepping in to help raise money for the Tushka Disaster Relief Fund. They are throwing two benefit concerts on May 25th & 26th and all proceeds from Reba and Shelton’s “Tornado Relief Concert” will go towards Atoka County’s ongoing relief.

Tired of getting the cops called on you for noise complaints? I found a solution.

One of my many random talents I have on the side is using vinyls to create sets. A little scratching and mixing and I am good to go for hours on end. I am known around my complex for hosting late night dance parties, which might result in my eviction.

Here is a trick of the trade I’ve learned over the months that will help you avoid the late night knocks on the door from the police; Play music your neighbors hear on special occasions. Throw in a couple Journey tracks, Twist and Shouts and a YMCA in the mix and your “teenage-beer party” has officially turned into a elite celebration your neighbors wont think twice about. These songs will bring them back to the days of their children’s weddings and their high school reunions. It also is a great excuse for me to expand the vinyl collection.
